Commission Report

The Oblates of Mary Immaculate welcome the publication today (May 20th, 2009) of the Report of the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse and specifically in relation to St Conleth’s Reformatory, Daingean, Co. Offaly, run by the Order until its closure in 1973.

We wish to reiterate the shortcomings on our part acknowledged to the Commission and the serious consequences for some of the boys in our care. We unreservedly apologise for this.

We intend to study the Report and its Recommendations in detail.

We have set up a designated Freephone for any person who feels affected in any way by the issues relating to St Conleth’s Reformatory in the Commission’s Report.

The number is 1800 303 164. It will operate from 9am to 8pm, Monday to Friday, and from 10am to 1pm, Saturday.
