Irish Oblate dies in Lesotho
Fr Denis O?Callaghan
& President McAleese
It was very much the end of an era when Waterford-born Oblate missionary, Fr Denis O?Callaghan died in Lesotho on July 1st.
Denis worked for almost 60 years with the people of this mountain kingdom, which is completely surrounded by South Africa. In a missionary life that varied from teaching philosophy and ministering to scattered mountain communities, always on horseback, to gentle presence as chaplain in the hospital at Maseru up to the end of his life, Denis never gave less that his best. We shall greatly miss this outstanding missionary and saintly man.
