Strategic plan for future wins approval
Newletter Jan 2008
In early November a provincial assembly, held at the Oblate Retreat Centre in Crewe, marked an important milestone in the ‘re-founding’ process which the Oblates and their partners in mission in Britain and Ireland began in January 2007.
A series of proposals which had emerged from the work during the year were presented for ratification to the assembly by the leadership team. The proposed strategic plan (2007-2012)involved a radical reduction in parish commitments, the most contentious and painful element in the plan.
This was dictated in part by our reduced numbers and aging personnel. Cutbacks on commitments would also be necessary if the province's resources were to be re-focussed on serving the mission today in a way that is as responsive as possible to current need, and is both informed and inspired by the Oblate charism.
The business of the meeting was facilitated by Ms Judith King. Oblate Vicar General, Fr Eugene King, who was with us throughout, presented a number of brief reflections that brought a theological depth and a breadth of perspective to the conversation which was both challenging and enriching.
The proposed strategic plan was agreed.
