St Eugene de Mazenod

Eugene de Mazenod was described by his contemporaries as a man who had "a heart as big as the world". The impact of the French Revolution coupled with a profound experience of the love of God, led him to dedicate his life to the service of Jesus Christ and the Church. By founding the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, in Southern France in 1816, Eugene sought to embody and communicate the Gospel of Christ to an increasingly diverse and secular world.

His life of virtue was recognized by the Church and on December 3, 1995 Pope John Paul II declared him a Saint.
